Manchester Comes Out Fighting

Manchester City Council have stated that they will continue to bid on major events for the City Of Manchester even after the riots and violence from the UEFA Cup Final this year between Zenit St Petersburg and Rangers on the 14th May.

The thuggery of the fans, the devastation on Manchester City Centre, the tarnished reputation of a great City have not put off the Manchester City Council it has infact made them more determined to stage major events and more importantly success stories like the Ricky Hatton fight on 24th May or the Commonwealth games in 2002.

The damage of the failed Uefa Cup event significantly cut short the 10 million bonanza revenue that the Uefa Cup was expected to bring and the clean up operation ran in to the millions.

The Uefa Cup event saw a success for restaurants, hotels and bars but all in all the heavy clean up bill and damaged reputation of Manchester put a downer on the event and Manchester needs a major event to restore some Manchester Pride.

Bollin Fee, Wilmslow

Now considering i was entering a JD Wetherspoon pub I feel my hesitation was granted.

Somehow the feel of the Bollin Fee doesnt feel like a Wetherspoons pub now this could be because there was no shaven head thug on the door or a drunk outside how had been on the cheap bitter all day.

What every Wetherspoons is famous for is cheap cheap drink but yes this is because it is soon to be at its sell by date and probably been in a brewery or a more established bar than a Wetherspoons pub for a long period of time. Now a hint for you is go for a guiness extra cold because it actually tasted fresh and if it had been there very recently.

For the food Wetherspoons have the “curry nights”, “steak offers” and other special offers which are a success. The curry night at wetherspoons offers a choice of up too 19 currys which all have a naan bread and papadums plus the standard rice. The steak offer is two steaks and a bottle of wine for £10 which would be good if that steaks wernt off a cows backside.

With every review there is a but…..the chicken dish was how a chicken dish should succulent and tastiful, Chips were okay and the BBQ sauce was good.

So I guess what im saying is JD Wetherspoons and Bollin Fee, Wilsmlow is still the same cheap beer and food offers but without the resident drunk I guess….worth a try…maybe…but after a few beers elsewhere.

Springwood, Tytherington, Macclesfield, Cheshire

What was previously the middlewood way on Tytherington Business Park has now been re-vamped with a new menu and new owners (table table).

Now any new ownership and new menu is worth a try when on your doorstop, problem is it can go either way a delight so you now have a new place food for locally or a disaster and you tell all friends/family how poor and take some potential customers off them.

The Verdict is that I am not going to go shouting of the rooftops about it but I am going to go again. The service was good even though the staff were a little stretched, the menu is good plenty of choice for everyone whether it be fish, steak, chicken, pie, vegitarian or plain fussy.

For a starter I ordered a garlic bread now it was more with a tiny sprinkle of garlic but i don’t go somewhere for garlic bread. For a main course it was the haddock and welsh rarebit fishcake which was fantastic the only down point being the fact they ran out of new potatos so there was only chips to choose from, still the fishcakes were brilliant.

for desert it was a basic ice cream dish which was basic.

The individual Restaurant company which also operates the Piccolino and Restaurant Bar & Grill chains, said excluding the disposed Bank restaurant in Aldwych and the closed Zinc restaurant in Birmingham, sales had risen by 23 per cent this year so far.

This has mainly been driven by the 6 openings of new sites in 2007.

Two more Piccolino restaurants are currently in build with the site in Birmingham due to open on May 23 and York just before the half year-end.

A new system is to be brought in to mark restaurants for hygiene in a bid to the number food posioning cases across the Berkshire.

The local authorities have come up with a star system to rank each restaurant in the borough on hygiene. If passed at Thursday 22nd May council meeting, local council environmental health officers will be awarding all restaurants in Berkshire from Zero to the Top mark of 5.

Once passed the council are going to be targeting High street restaurants, cafes and pubs from September and then moving into all food outlets throughout the borough. Should this be a success it could become a popular “scores on doors rating” for your local restaurant.

Sir Terrence Conran has decided after being at the top of his game for many decades to call it a day and sell off his many restaurants.

Sir Terrence Conran who was knighted in 1983 started off with a design practise in the 1950’s and developed a successful Summa Furniture Range and designed a shop for Mary Quant.

Moving into the 1980’s Sir Terrence Conran expanded into the Storehouse Group which owned Mothercare and Heals. He then put his unique design qualities to show re-designing the top names until he lost control of the company in the 1990’s.

With most industries boxed off and the Terrence Conran touch all over them, Sir Terrence moved into restaurants and this is where he became most famous.

Terrence Conran developed the Soup Kitchen, Orrery, Quaglino’s, Mezzo , Pont de la Tour, Blueprint Cafe, Butler’s Wharf Chop House and even had time to move abroad with restaurants.

Many rewards, designs and restaurants Sir Terrence Conran has decided to hit the easy life and retire. But is this the last we would of seen of Sir Terrence Conran…….

Chinese Delight, Frodsham, Cheshire

As the name says…..What a Chinese Delight.

This is by a mile the best Chinese Restaurant I have ever visited. After a very good recommendation I decided I had to go and try it. I was not dissapointed.

Now for a special occasion it is perfect but I can quite confidently say it won’t be just special occasions I will be visiting this Chinese Delight Restaurant in Frodsham.

To start off with the setting is a lot more up market than most chinese restaurants I have visited (even if it is in Frodsham). Instead of the ageing feel and poor quality wallpaper and furniture the Chinese Delight, Frodsham offers a small river flowing around the outside of the restaurant with koi carp and many other exotic fish swimming by. You are greeted at the door by friendly staff and taken into a very spacious bar area and sat down to look through the menu and a drinks order is taken.

The staff dont rush you into ordering and make it clear all night that they are happy for you to occupy the table for aslong as you want and most importantly to enjoy the food at Chinese Delight, Frodsham.

Now with being in a group of 8 we decided to go for a banquet menu with 8 courses!!!!

Not one of the chinese delight courses dissapointed.

From start to finish they were brilliant and how we all had room for what we ate and drank we will never know. What helped the situation more than ever was because we were not rushed by the staff during our 4.5 hours at the Chinese Delight.

The courses ranged from prawn crackers, choice of soup, spring rolls/prawn toast, spare ribs, crispy duck, crabs and squid, they then bring out a choice of main meals and rice, followed by a dessert if it can be managed.

overall a fantastic experience at the chinese delight, frodsham and one that I will be experiencing again.

A new survey has found that one in four top british restaurants bans new mothers from breastfeeding in public.

A massive 7% of spanish, italian, mexican, indian and other well known eateries in the Uk banned breastfeeding outright and a further 17% said they would ban woman infront of other diners and in the main restaurant.

On a positive side 61% of restaurants surveyed have no restrictions on breastfeeding.
